Nasty Newman Ruins the Evening Part 4
‘Sssh!’ Newman hissed.
His face flamed bright red.
‘Damn it, Remy, really! Must you always be the drama queen? Don’t make a scene! I was only
once again holding out the olive branch.’
Newman’s look became one of exaggerated pity.
‘I read in the paper that you adopted Lanie. I know Mary would be pleased that you and Trent are taking such good care of her little girl.’
Newman sighed dramatically, obviously for Helen’s benefit.
‘I loved Mary too. I never stopped. Wether you believe me or not, that love extends to both you and her daughter. ’
Newman then tried to appeal to me.
‘I’m not going to lie, Miss Lanie. I wasn’t a good person in the past...though I did try...I just didn’t have skills and resources to deal with the pressure I was feeling starting out as a talent agent. I was also smarting from a failed acting career. Your father was a much better husband to your mother. I’m glad they had you. I visited once to apoligise. It nearly killed me to see my beloved Mary with someone else, but I had to admit I deserved it.’
Little did Newman know that I remembered his visit.
I couldn’t remember the conversation, just that he’d been menacing and creepy.
The thought that I ever bit the slimebag made me suddenly queasy.
‘Some day you might want to know more about you mother. I can tell you things Remy couldn’t. I have things that she left behind, that should by all rights be yours. Someday like Helen you may grow tired of being over protected and treated like a child. You can consider me your friend.
I’ll make myself available to you, if you should ever need me for any reason!'
’
Before my Uncle could lunge forward and silence Newman, Trent stepped in between them.
‘If your not going to order anything Newman, I suggest you leave. Your presence isn’t welcome at this table.’
