Hit the Reply button on this post and you'll see how I did it.

You mean like this?
The format for that is [URL=https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/827218/how-to-determine-whether-a-computer-is-running-a-32-bit-version-or-64]like this?[/URL
though with the commands all in square brackets. You can see the 'like this' at the end there and the url (typed out) in the middle. The site post editor will do that automatically for you though you still have to type out the url. No getting away from that.
The thing is though, you don't have to type out the url anyway - just click in the address bar, select the whole address and copy it (Ctrl-C), then paste it in your post (Ctrl-V).

Thanks, guys. I'm going to have to play with it a bit more, but am currently busy BREAKING everything I own. Once I'm down to the bare walls, I'll have more time. (Look, there's a clock that somehow stills works! Sigh...this job is never done)

Red flashing hood. I fixed it once and didn't document what I did. It really takes the fun out of creating when I see that. My game (via log) thinks I have 1024 of memory when I have 8x that.

Try this:
4GB Patch, allows game to access more memory to prevent flashing pink that signals memory is used up

Red flashing hood is a different problem, I think. The texture memory creates pink/purplish flashing.

Okay. I just put that there in case because people sometimes see colors differently.

Here's a "learn from my stupidity" post:
For the above fix, it's not enough to just make the changes in your config files as explained in the Description ...
... you have to actually download the mod too.

LOLLOLLOL! I was reading your post thinking I might have to add whatever your advice was going to be to the description of the fix.
But, after reading it, I decided not to.
LOL, again. Thanks for the laugh, as well as the knowledge that I'm not the only person capable of such stunning acts of intelligence.

Yeah, based on the mod's comments, I think most people understand that it's, you know, a mod. I guess I just got so used to playing with the various graphics config files over the years that once I made the change in the mod's description I was like OKAY COOL I'M DONE WHERE MY SHADOWS!?

Crap! Flashing pink everywhere! But the game played perfectly fine two minutes ago and I know my Graphics file recognizes my card!
Try these fixes:
1. Delete bloated thumbnails folders. If they're like mine looked after I got the flashies, they can get pretty huge. A couple of mine were actually more than 32,000 kb when I got the flashies! I use 15,000 kb as a cutoff. You might even want to check and delete them more frequently. The game will regenerate them.

There are other tips to keep in mind, but as celebkiriedhel wrote, I find that #1 usually gets the job done in my game. However, I need to check one more thing ...
2. I find that for some reason, I have to check my graphics card texture memory from time to time. For some reason, my graphics like reverting to previous versions, or it reverts to not forcing them at all .. I'm guessing some sort of non-Sims update does that. (The last time, a Windows update messed with another part of the file, even though it was read-only.) You can do this using Graphics Rule Maker. Make sure you have force textures on and the closest number you can get to your DxDiag texture memory info. Here ... video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLkmxAg7r3Y
3. Also in the video ... Sims shadows never look right to me anyway (Kinda blobby, if you ask me!), and I haven't seen any huge problems with medium lighting. I do, however, leave the smooth edges up all the way and reflections on. If I want shadows and high lighting for pictures I'll turn them on temporarily.
4. This is the mother in me. Take a break from the game! It is far too easy to play for hours at a time. I myself am trying to turn the game off for a few minutes after an hour. Longer is better. I'd like to think my eyes are thanking me. Maybe the game is as well!
If the flashy pink is happening more than once in a long while, you might want to try the other tips. But these are the ones I do first.
Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

Okay, so I'm going to try one more time to add the 4g patch to my game, working on the premise that i've been doing it wrong. So,
1. I downloaded the patch.
2. When I click on it, it brings up my sims menu that begins with camera, config, etc. Where do I apply the patch?

If you have Win10, it might be a problem with the operating system as there seems to be an emerging problem with Win10 updates and/or possibly graphic card driver updates and memory and/or video memory management and the game. We've been talking about it over in Help. No particular solution in sight as yet but it is being looked at. Flashing pink is usually a video memory issue. I have Win10 rolled back several updates at the moment and the game is running fine (preventing reinstalling the latest update manually atm) but it had an absolute fit with the latest update (last week). Not everyone seems to be affected which is why it might be linked to the type of video card you have. One thing that seems to work (for now) is reinstalling drivers MANUALLY, especially if you have a NVidia card. I'm thinking about creating a virtual machine environment for the game.

@gazania - don't worry too much. Have a look over here at Leefish: http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/showthread.php?tid=7705
(I got pink flashing a couple of times - deleting the thumbnails solved it at once, so that part worked for me).

Apparently my thumbnail folder is over 600MB, since this got brought up in Discord and I checked- I never think of or bother with this folder. I guess that's what 6 years will grow to.

Jo - in my case, it is mostly the CAST thumbnails after I played around with recoloring clothing in Body Shop that tends to accumulate quickly. However, pink flashing and needing to delete them - only twice in a long time. (Can't even remember when the last time was - what I do remember that, even though I was worried, Matthew Picaso digging in a trash can with a head floating on a pink flash looked rather funny ).
On the other hand, I have always deleted them if cc in CAS did not show up properly, even before UC or Windows 10. I did not know one could refresh them, so I have kind of grown into that habit.
