Default City Life/Urban Neighborhood Project - Emerald Heights - TS2 Base Game Only
We made a poll back in April about what custom neighborhoods you would like to see created next.

See the results, we've got. http://www.poll-maker.com/results28...554b4b-11#tab-2

So, we started with this project. It's currently called Emerald Heights
Since this is a urban neighborhood, we're planning to include about 15-20 families or more.

You can change the lot zoning if you want. We have too many residential lots so you can convert a residential lot into a community lot.

You can join us with our project if you want but please take note of the following "rules":

- The houses must be base game compatible; the houses must be created in a TS2 only AnyGame with no Maxis content.
- You may not use any CC. The house or the family must remain CC-free.
- You may build DIY EP lots, meaning you may build restaurants without restaurant stoves, podium but it must remain base game compatible.
- You can still create a family if you can't use the AnyGameStarter. Just create the sims as you would normally do. When you're done, upload the neighborhood where the family resides and we'll extract it and add it to our neighborhood.
- Unfortunately, this can't be done with the lots. Any lots that are created in an EP game can't be imported into a TS2 base game only game.
- You have to use the pacifier button if you want to create a child of two sims. If you want to create elders with an adult child, then you can create the elders as adults, generate a child and then age them up to elders and the child to an adult.
- You must not alter the offspring's genetics. You may roll the pacifier until you get the best looking sim but you must not change his/her facial structure, eye color or hair color. You can dye their hairs if you want but this needs to be done in the game.
- Make sure that the sims look unique, meaning no unaltered template faces.
- The families must not be played. You have to pause the game after move in.

Anyway, if you want to contribute this project, choose a lot number that is not striked out and we'll add you to the list.

The white numbers are residential lots and the yellow numbers are community lots.

Update 4th June 2016:
The empty (lots only) version of Emerald Heights is finished and is ready to be playtested. The inhabited version is in the works!

Valid, unclaimed numbers
No numbers left for build.

So far so good!

You might want to mention that we will first build up the neighborhood without any sims, so we have an occupied version as well as an empty version.

Also, to those who would like to participate, make sure you have these necessary hacks and fixes in your Downloads folder, here: http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=552685

BTW:

By Maxis content I'm assuming you mean Official Store and Exchange content? Not what we already have in the game itself? :S :P

Anyways, I'll take a look at the neighborhood now.

Oh, yeah sure. Feel free to pitch in!

Okay, so I managed to build the museum:

So, what do you guys think?

Also, a new updated version of the neighborhood has been uploaded.

Again, we appreciate all the help we can get!

I'm not quite sure how different default replacements are from other types of CC, so you'll have to wait for the rest of the group members, maybe they know more about it. The reason why we try to make our neighborhoods CC free is for the sake of ease of installation and compatibility. If you can somehow manage to avoid having the default replacements in AnyGameStarter, that would be great.

I would love to create a family, but I can't use AnyGame Starter (it used to work fine, now it won't run at all on my laptop....), so I'd need to create them and upload the neighbourhood that they're in so that you guys can extract them. Is that OK?

Oh! Right! I forgot about this method! Yes, this could work.

applesauce58, as laura said, you could create your family in an empty neighborhood and we'll extract them and add them to this one. (Jawusa's a pro in the field of extracting sims. )

I forgot to mention that. But they can still create the families. I can extract them and save them somewhere safe. I hope they won't create the lot and pack it together with the family. This would corrupt the neighborhood. We have to mention that.

And, the link you've linked is in our secret social group. They can't see it. I'm not sure if they can see single posts as well. http://modthesims.info/showpost.php...244&postcount=2

With no Maxis content, no Pleasantview townies/NPCs, no stealth hood sims, etc. In other words, an empty game.

Anyway, your museum looks stunning. Great job!

I think, it's better if they pack their lots as .sims2packages. Then, we can replace the lots ourselves. So, that they can work on this neighborhood at the same time without waiting for someone else.
We can still do it in the old-fashioned way but then, we need a seperate thread for that.

Yes, of course. Choose a number and build that lot. When you're done, pack it as a .sims2pack and upload it. If you want to create a family, then create a neighborhood with the family and upload it. We'll take care of your family and add it once all of the lots in the neighborhood are complete.

It's OK to have defaults installed. Cat also had default skintones installed when I extracted her family. So, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's OK. Create a new neighborhood with your family and upload that neighborhood. BodyShop removes the EP requirement (thankfully) so we can include your family in our neighborhood. As for their house, you can tell us how your family's house should look like, or other details which need to be included.

Yes, you can create a family for that lot but we want to create two versions. An empty version and an inhabited version. So, you can create a family but don't move them in there. Create a new neighborhood with that family instead. I will take notes of their aspirations, descriptions, skills, and other details and recreate all of your sims once all of the lots are complete.

Your lot looks nice, btw.

I would like to create a group home and its inhabitants, but can't tell from your map how the neighborhoods work out. A group home should be in a downmarket area, and for the one I envision the best thing would be a downmarket area that used to be upmarket - one of those neighborhoods that was ritzy 50-70 years ago and in ten years or so will be gentrified, but right now is on the skids. So which lot should I claim?

I am a little hazy about the inhabitants (because of the way I make sims and because I don't want to get married to any notions), but how would it be to create one or two kids who have family ties in the neighborhood, and the family those ties are to?

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

@marka93 Thank you! It looks great! I think, it's better if we pack our lots as .sims2packages. Then, we can replace the lots easily. So, that we can work on this neighborhood at the same time without waiting for someone else for an upcoming version.
We can still do it in the old-fashioned way like we did it in MV, MC and BF but then, we need a seperate thread for that.

@Redtwoface Just take the time you need. We'll add your lot once it's done.

@Peni Griffin 19-24 would be a downmarket area. Right in front of the solar panels (well, actually satellite dishes)
As for the sims, you can create multiple families which are tied to each other. It sounds like you want to create a divorced couple with children or a couple who have children but aren't married yet. You can do that, but create them all together in CAS. We can seperate the families once the neighborhood is done and when we add the extracted sims. You can also include pregnancies if you want. Just tell us who the father and the mother and which pregnancy state (invisible, half, full) it should be and we'll add it to the neighborhood.

I just wanted to add that we need high rise buildings for this urban neighborhood, even if that means only reaching the game's original limit of floor levels.

These high rise buildings could be anything like apartment buildings (not an actual AL-functioning apartment building, but a BG apartment building), skyscrapers (housing "offices"), towers, etc...

So feel free to build those as well.

I have an idea for number 37, a grand, old-ish house to sit opposite the museum, and an idea for a family, if that's okay? I have a working AnyGameStarter.

I think it might be an idea to set out which lots you want high rise buildings to occupy the space of, because to some extent while they don't have to be uniform, it would help create a cohesive "look" for the neighbourhood if they are close together, and some blocks are starting to be filled. I think that the right hand side blocks (19-24, 39-44, 54-59) would fit well so that the neighbourhood "rises to the right" and leads up to that radio tower, but I don't know. What do you think? Or are you after a more mixed-up look?

I would not mind creating a high rise or two, either. Either as convertible-to-apartments or as hood deco perhaps with a community lot on the base floor.

BTW, re: default replacements, if you create an empty AGS environment, defaults won't be present in that, only in your normal game. So it's not a problem to build/create sims with that in place, because they wouldn't be in place in the building environment

If you can't use AGS the other way to do it is rename your normal The Sims 2 folder to The Sims 2.main . The game will create a blank one when you load the game. Build in this. To revert to your normal game, rename the new The Sims 2 folder to The Sims 2.build and delete the .main suffix from your normal game.

@simsfreq Number 38 was actualy intended to be an old house. A lady who doesn't want to sell her house. That house is in the downtown area and the architects want her to move out so that they can bulldoze her house to build new buildings, but she refuses to move. She has a private family cemetary in her backyard like the Goths. You can create that lot if you want.

I think number 37 is a community lot, as well. But I'm not exactly sure.

Oh no, I would be terrible at making a creepy mansion, I fear! I'll leave 37, then, if it's a community lot. But I do like this project Perhaps it's best if I wait and see some of the other architectural styles first. I have a few ideas for families so far, but houses I'm less clear on.
