Default Shading on my clothes looks messy, and blotchy (SIMS 3)
I love clothes that are really detailed like these:

but everytime I design them, the details turn into just a mess.

On the .dds file, does the details have to be more distinct lines?
Any suggestions, or useful tutorials?

Can you post an ingame shot of the texture so we can see what you're talking about?

If it's even smudgy in TSRW or CTU, you probably used very low quality DDS conversion.

I suggest using nvdxt with high quality settings. Something like this:

nvdxt.exe -Sinc -quality_highest -dxt1c -dither -file *m.tga //for opaque images
nvdxt.exe -Sinc -quality_highest -dxt5 -dither -file *m.tga //for transparent images
nvdxt.exe -Sinc -quality_highest -dxt5 -file *n.tga //for normal maps
