Skins from the Japanese version of the game -- You can have them!
Geonightman posted in this thread on Reddit about some skins that were only ever included in the Japanese version of The Sims. Naturally, the first thing people wanted was to have them in their own game. :-)Well, you can! There were only a few that I wanted in mine, but the procedure I used to make the skins usable in the game should work for any of them. Here's what you do:
I went to The Cutting Room floor and found the skins Geonightman told us about here: https://tcrf.net/The_Sims_(Windows)...Skins_and_Heads
There were only a couple that I wanted, but those worked great.
To use them, I did the following:
1. Clicked on the pictures -- of the TEXTURE, not of the sim -- I wanted and chose "Save Image As."
2. Opened a Sims 1 texture file from the same mesh in Photoshop Elements.
3. Made a new file the same size as that texture file.
4. Opened the .png file with the picture of the texture in Photoshop Elements.
5. Copied and pasted the .png onto the new file I made in #3.
6. Under the Image tab, I chose Mode, then clicked on Indexed Color. I then clicked on the drop-down menu labeled "Palette" and chose Local Perceptual, then clicked OK.
7. I chose a name for the new file that had the same prefix as the similar file that I'd opened in #2. So, for example, for the picture that's labeled TS1_B008FAFitlgt_OL.png, I opened the B008FAFitlgt_TWif.bmp file, then named the new one B008FAFitlgt_JapEdOL.bmp (for Japanese Edition).
8. I put those .bmp files in my Textures folder under GameData (C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Textures).
When I started up The Sims and went into the Create A Family screen, there they were!
This is a new male head and a new female body:
