Default Have you created a LOMAC Campaign?
LOMAC: Lock On Modern Air Combat

If you haven't searched it up or anything, then you might want to. It was rated with the highest graphics by like... er.... alot of gaming sites and sponsors. It's extremely realistic, the planes look real, and there is so much map to check out, including the ocean, mountain range, and grasslands.

Now, I'm a big fan of the mission editor. I create missions all the time, I actually made a mission where you have to escort the president whose in a C-17A and he's being attacked by 5 different enemy squadrons, most being Ace pilots. It was pretty intense, I actually based one of my Lock On™ movies on it.

Anyways if you've created your own mission, post it!

Definately worth looking at since we are finally in a time when modern PCs can play the game.

Seriously, LOMAC had some of the steepest system requirements of any game out there. I had to get 2x7800GTXs in SLi mode with a 4800+ X2 processor and 2GB RAM before I could push all the detail to the right.

Great game... although I no longer have it.

And guys don't say a game is 'addicting'. That is a horrible massacre of the English language. The word is 'addictive'. Thank you. :)

Honestly, I didn't have that huge of a problem with it--I ran the game fine at 1600x1200 with an X800Pro, 4xAA, and Medium to High Graphical Settings.

Granted, it was a while ago. I guess I must had missed certain details. But frankly, from what I've seen, the game just doesn't look so good that it demands a high-grade SLi setup and 2 gigs of RAM. I mean, we're talking about the default game here, right? Because there have been several "hi-res" skin and graphic packs for it since, especially for aircraft--they've been out for a while.

LOMAC might have been system demanding, but the plane textures were so-so.

In any case, I really wanted to like the game, and I really did appreciate the realism and detailed cockpits, however, I felt it was rushed and incomplete, compared to, say IL-2 Sturmovik. LOMAC is a Russian title, if I remember correctly, and the game is rife with translation mistakes and grammatical errors.

That, and you couldn't fly the F-14A! You could shoot one down, but not fly it! What the deal, yo?

In any case, I'm siding more with IL-2 Sturmovik--it's got expansion packs out the wazoo, and enough varied content to actually make me overlook the fact that, like so many other games, it's set in the Great Patrotic War (which has been done to death). It focuses on the Eastern Front and the Pacific Theater, which are both under-represented. And despite it's glitches, it's still a lot more refined, in terms of single-player than LOMAC.

Though I miss modern flight sims. Right now, for a modern one, I play 'Wings Over Europe', which is set in a similar era as LOMAC. Not as pretty, but not nearly as buggy or unfinished either. Plus, it allows custom planes--LOMAC barely supports custom skins!

I never would have guessed that it was high-demanding. I mean, there is more than 15,000km of terrain and it's VERY high graphics but I only run a 178MB Graphics Card. Hm... oh well, I have like 2Gs of ram so I guess that would bring it up, and I don't run ANYTHING in the background when playing ANY game.

Keep in mind I was talking about having everything on high and I think we've already discussed that I have a much lower tollerance for lower frame rates than you. :P

Anyway you are right, it doesn't look so fantastic these days. But flight sims have always been power hungry. Still are. Check out MFS X.

MFSX is a totally different matter. That game actually looks good. :P

For the record, I was playing the game at approximately 35 FPS, with a dip to about 28 FPS when engaged in a severe battle (i.e. lots of planes on the screen, along with lots of explosions--and I mean LOTS). Assuming I remember correctly.

Considering I only had 1 video card, I think I did pretty good. Then again, SLi support for non-US games was (and still is) spotty. That might have had something to do with it. The lesson? There's always a down side.

Ah LOMAC fans!

For those who are having performance problems with the game, highly recommend upgrading to LOMAC Gold. It includes the Flaming Cliffs expansion, which has all the patches, a new plane, and basically fixes all the problems the initial release had. Considering that I got my copy via Amazon for a whopping $15, it's definitely worth checking out :yippee:

There's also TONS of mods available for the game... here's a good place to start:
