Finally broke down ...

... and got TS3.

So far I've had a blast. Of course there are many annoyances, but why dwell on them. I'm just glad I'm coming late to the game so that everyone else's had all the trouble with the game first, letting me learn from their experiences.

So look out, I'll be uploading new lots soon :D

Another town house - this time with basement apartments

Date Posted: 8th Nov 2009 at 5:59 PM

This is a picture of my current project, another town house. This one has basement apartments. When I lived and studied a couple of years in London some ten years ago, the small basement apartments in my area always made me curious and a bit envious, too. - Knowing I'd never be able to afford a propper apartment, the basement ones seemed more within reach - not that they were. So that memory, really, is what made me experiment with basement flats.

The house has four flats, so one does not actually have to play an apartment at basement level. - They're very small, bedsits really, and somewhat inaccessible.

It did take a bit of experimentation to make it work. But I found out that stairs that go down under foundation level are ok as long as they are in and lead to communal areas.

It's been very silent on my little space here on MTS for a while ...

Date Posted: 13th Oct 2009 at 10:19 AM

... it's not because I'm tiring of TS2 at all and I plan to get back to uploading probably some time after xmas. The thing is that I've been so stupid as to get myself mixed up in academia. For the past years I've been working on a theoretical arts research project and it's time to hand it in very soon. It'm not even sure I'll manage to get the thesis done by the deadline. Either way, I'll be one happy gal once the deadline's passed because I'll have my life back. Academia's not for me. By now it's painfully clear to me that really long, long, repetitive solitary projects and hard competition are like a slow and unpleasant dead for me.

Now unto something more important If you're looking for a nice derelict house (pic above), you may want to check out my newest upload over at Parsimonious where I've become a RA over the fall.

beach with pier has been updated

Date Posted: 22nd Sep 2009 at 12:34 PM

One of my first lots here was a beach lot - that was long before I realised just how tricky those are to share ...

Well, after some justified complaints I've given the lot a much needed overhaul. - One of the major problems was that the modified beachline resets when the file is installed. I didn't know that when I created the lot and didn't think to test for it, either. I've tried to work around this problem by creating the illusion of water under the pier.
- EP requirements have also been lowered and any SP requirements have been removed.
- There's less cc now and all is now included in the lot file, so no more shopping list

Check out the updated post, if you're interested in a temperate beach lot that works well on the Belladonna Cove terrain.

another update of a canal lot and how to build your own

Date Posted: 26th Aug 2009 at 9:51 AM

The Prima Cars lot has now been updated. Now it only requires UNI, NL, OFB, FT and AL.

I also wanted to add something about the canal lots in general. Of course it looks a bit strange with the closed locks at the sides of each lot - especially because it cannot totally hide that the canal doesn't go right to the edges. But it's the best way I've come up with to create a contineous feel of a canal that spands several lots.

I should post a template soon, but until that happens here're the details so that you can build your own canal lots to match, should you wish to. (If you're an accomplished builder and interested in doing a joint canal hood project, please pm me.)

The lot should be at least 2x3, but anything bigger goes too. You need to unlock the edge tiles with the "boolProp lockTiles" [true/false] cheat. Count 19 tiles into the lot from the pavement or count 3 tiles from the back if it's a lot that's 30 tiles deep. The canal itself is 8 tiles broad.

I find that when it comes to digging the canal it's easiest if you cover the tiles that are next to the canal. Then use the large water tool. I even out the bottom of the canal with the terain tool. Just be sure to drag from the middle and undo if the water suddenly disappears

The place the locked canal locks at each end of the canal where there's no water. Use the canal bank tiles to cover the sides if you wish to.

If you build apartments on a canal lot, it is important that you don't rezone the lot to apartments while next to other canal lots. If you do this the whole lot will be under water. (I learned this the hard way!)

Just move the lot to a place where no other lots are next to it, then rezone and you're all good.

Back again ...

Date Posted: 20th Aug 2009 at 7:53 AM

... after a long summer with computer problems, house moving, and holiday. At the moment I'm working on various canal houses, recreating some of the houses I lost when my harddrive died on me. I've also updated the abandoned factory lot so that it requires less EPs and SPs. Some objects, also, weren't available online anymore and I've replaced those. So it's all new and shiny with new pics. - I'll probably be going over all my lots here over the next months in order to remove any EPs and SPs that aren't needed.

The newest addition to the canal series is a derelict building, prefect for squatting in. Since guatla completed her fantastic demolition set, I've been dying to try it out, so the lot is really a tribute to all her amazing creations. It's my first starter and it's still in moderation.

next stage with canal lots

Date Posted: 28th Jun 2009 at 2:33 PM

I had a whole row of fake rowhouses prepared and nearly ready for upload, when my harddisk caved in some weeks ago.

They're supposed to look like the old narrow canal houses that you find in every European canal town. Some are with two or three apartments and some are just for one family:

And from hoodview:

Stupid me didn't have any recent backups so once the pc's fixed I'll have to start over again. I'm glad I had some pics at photobucket.
